‘BEWITCHED AND BE DITCHED’ by Karen Moller
A darkly tragicomedy story of heartbreak & the collateral damage
Karen Moller a rebellious spirt of the 1960s became a leading figure in the European fashion world. Over the course of three decades, she met pretty much every hip personality who defines the era. She partied with the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the iconic Twiggy who modelled her designs and John Hopkins who led the 1960s on its merry way. She crossed paths with the Beats Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs while hanging out with remarkable artists Joseph Beuys, Jean Tinguely, Yves Klein, Andy Warhol and Yoko Ono.
In, Bewitched and Be Ditch, Moller’s third book, she presents a darkly humorous exploration of a two-decade love story between Arthur, an aging 84 year old poet/singer on the brink of achieving his ambitions, and Katherine, a successful Canadian designer who has defied the odds and made her mark on the Parisian fashion world. The narrative unfolds through time-jumping journal entries and candid emails, revealing their shared passions of art and music while exposing the bittersweet vulnerabilities of financially unequal partnerships.
Patasola, a temptress half Arthur’s age from the South American wastelands, has seduced her way into the Madrid art world by exploiting vulnerable sugar daddies. Arthur, Katherine’s beloved partner of twenty years, becomes her latest prey. Few readers will be able to resist the humous ups and downs of this foolish-man torn between his dual nature – the passive Dr. Jekyll and the lustful, reckless Mr. Hyde, who believes this Columbian seductress is not only madly in love with him, but her frantic prayers will help him find his Christian identity.
Katherine’s world shatters when Arthur abandons her without explanation, leaving behind nothing but an iPad of shared pornographic images with Patasola and a belated email claiming he has been bewitched. This tale, rich with emotion, is a deeply moving reflection on the vulnerabilities of an aging man who is overcome by the belief he can recover his lost youth in the arms of a younger woman.
Karen says: “By writing this book I wrote out my rage at being betrayed and ditched by the love of my life for a younger woman -- an experience of many women. My hope is that it brings comfort to betrayed women just as the books I read eventually brought me understanding.

When Patasola, a cunning witch from the South American wastelands, seduces her way into the Madrid art scene by exploiting vulnerable sugar daddies, Arthur—Katherine’s beloved husband—becomes her latest prey. Torn between his dual nature—the passive Dr. Jekyll and the lustful, reckless Billy Goat Mr. Hyde—Arthur convinces himself that this young witch is not only madly in love with him but is his saviour.
Can Katherine save Arthur from this emotional vampire before it’s too late?
About the author
Karen Moller grew up in a small community in the mountains of Western Canada with a father who believed girls weren’t worth educating and a mother who believed she had no talent. Virtually abandoned by her family, Karen worked her way through Art College. After winning the Alberta Art Scholarship, she hitchhiked to San Francisco, the beatnik heartland, in search of the mysterious brotherhood rebelling against American conformity.
Then it was on to New York and Paris, where she participated in poetry and art events, becoming friendly with unknown but soon-to-be-famous artists, poets, and musicians while continuing her art studies. In Spain, she became interested in the decorative arts after working with architects to make a living. In London, as the key player in Swinging London, Karen became globally known for her textile designs.
After winning awards and gaining international recognition, she relocated her design studio to Paris. In 1985, she created the styling office Trend Union, which TIME magazine named ‘one of the world's most influential fashion forecasting firms for predicting fashion trends.’
Karen now splits her time between her townhouse in Paris and her apartment in Venice, where she wrote Technicolor Dreamin’ in her own fashion. This memoir was published in England in 2018 and Sonando en Tecnicolor by Ediciones La Bahía in Spain. In 2021, Chasing the Stars and Hoping to Shag the Moon, the follow-up memoir, was published in England in 2020.
